With POTS Solutions Being Sunset, Reliable Replacements Are Crucial

A leading global timeshare and vacation ownership brand operates almost 200 destinations worldwide, providing top-tier vacation experiences. They had an urgent need to find a POTS replacement solution after experiencing numerous issues, including reliability and maintaining compliance standards. Support challenges and high costs for hardware/services were barriers that needed to be overcome. Their existing digital voice lines were failing to meet regulatory requirements, creating an immediate need to retire remaining legacy POTS lines that were no longer being supported. After many failed trials with various alternate solutions, they chose Ooma as their Provider.

Customer Profile:

  • Hospitality; timeshare resorts and hotels
  • Global destinations with tight regulatory requirements
  • 130 US-based locations
  • 425 Ooma AirDial lines with Remote Device Management
  • Update inventory of POTS lines and consolidate from multiple carriers

Objective:

The customer required a single, fully supported solution to integrate their digital voice lines and communication infrastructure to complete the transition from legacy POTS lines. Remote device access points required included voice (VoIP), fire alarm systems, faxing, elevators, and backup lines. Every location in their network is unique, meaning the project required an inventory audit to ensure only active lines would remain.

Discovery:

A Proof of Concept (POC) was conducted with three solution Providers. The Ooma team performed a live AirDial demonstration at the customer’s corporate office and was the only Provider able to successfully connect the fire alarm system – a crucial requirement that helped secure the customer’s trust and business. The communication from the project management team has been exceptional, with weekly meetings to update progress.

Solution/Deployment:

Once Ooma was selected, we began its deployment across all their US-based properties with dedicated lines for phone services, fire alarms, elevators, and each additional IoT device. For Network & Connectivity, Ooma’s unique MultiPath (MPT) technology was utilized for fail-safe redundancy along with the customer’s ISP, connecting Ooma’s AirDial devices for optimal Connectivity that also maintains strict compliance requirements. The customer noted how they were impressed with Ooma’s white-glove project management and speed of implementation.
